MEET SIFU CHRIS JONES



I met Lamar Davis back in the summer of 2001 in Homewood, Alabama. He was teaching a class near my office so I decided to try it out and see what it was all about. During this class, Lamar did a demonstration on trapping. I WAS SOLD and Lamar Davis became my Sifu that night. I signed up and started my training.


I trained with Sifu Lamar Davis for several years. It was a great workout, and an even better release of stress! Sifu Lamar Davis is certified by FIVE of Bruce Lee’s original students covering all stages of development of Jeet Kune Do. No one else in the world has that level of certification! One of my training partners asked me, “Chris, you have been training with Sifu Lamar for a number of years, but you hold no rank. What proof do you have that you trained with Sifu Lamar Davis as long as you have? What if something were to suddenly happen to him and he stopped teaching?” Of course this made me think about my training, why I did it, and what my goal was in training. I had no intention of teaching the art. I was not good at public speaking and had no desire to teach anything. However, it made sense to get certified so I had proof I had trained with Sifu Lamar Davis.


When I got certified to teach, I decided to start small and take on a few students to help keep my knowledge sharp and to have people to train with on a more regular basis. I opened Hardcore Jeet Kune Do Chelsea in January of 2013. For the first few years I taught, this was just side money and not my full time job – more of a hobby. The longer I did it, the more teaching grew on me. About a year ago, I started thinking about making this my full time job. I started thinking about teaching, and this school almost non stop. Every spare second I had, my mind ended up on the school and teaching Bruce Lee’s Art, and how I could make this my full time job. It got so bad, it was almost an aggravation – I couldn’t stop thinking about it. So, I decided to quit fighting it and really try to grow the school. In January, I added classes for kids, youth and women’s self defense. The school started to grow! In April, I started advertising. By October, the school had outgrown its space. I started looking for a commercial space to move into so the school could continue to grow. I ran into dead ends, and road blocks and thought that would end my chances of getting a commercial space. One by one, God stepped in and cleared the path every step of the way to make this dream a reality! We open in our new location in April of 2022!



MEET Steve Creel



Steve Creel has been immersed in the world of martial arts since his early teens. He began his studies with the Japanese arts: Judo in high school, Karate in college, and Aikido and Shinkendo as a young adult. He began cross-training in the Chinese martial arts with studies of Shuai Jiao and Eight Step Praying Mantis. In the early 2000s, Steve shifted focus to Jeet Kune Do, training intensely with Sifu Lamar Davis. Steve’s fascination with Bruce Lee’s art led him to his initial study of Wing Chun. He was granted Wing Chun instructor certification in 2012 and has been teaching classical Wing Chun ever since.


Steve’s Wing Chun Concepts coursework is built around a core curriculum spanning several branches of the Moy Yat family lineage. It is also heavily influenced by Steve’s ongoing training with Sifu Francis Fong (Jiu Wan lineage) and Sifu Augustine Fong (Ho Kam Ming lineage) among many others. Steve continues to travel and train with Wing Chun masters and grandmasters, and he tries to distill this knowledge into a universal, practical, and modern approach to this ancient fighting art.



ABOUT CHRIS JONES BY SIFU LAMAR M. DAVIS II



First, I will tell you a little bit about myself. I have been in the martial arts for 54 of my 64 years on this earth, and trained in many different martial arts, and Bruce Lee’s Jeet Kune Do is the most realistic, most effective system of pure self defense in the world! This is why I have devoted 43 years of my 54 years in the art to learning as much as I possibly could about this art. As a result of my extensive research and training, I have trained with over two dozen of Bruce Lee’s direct students and become fully certified as either a Full Instructor, Senior Instructor or Master Instructor by FIVE of Bruce Lee’s Original First Generation Students. No one else in the world has ever accomplished that! I have authored four books on Jeet Kune Do (with many more to come), I am the Owner/Executive Editor of Original Jeet Kune Do Quarterly magazine, produced over fifty instructional DVDs on Jeet Kune Do and I am the Executive Director/Master Instructor of DragonBlast Jeet Kune Do Association and the Hardcore Jeet Kune Do Chinese Gung Fu Association. Teaching this art has allowed me to travel the world. I have students and Instructors under me scatted worldwide. This is all that I do! Needless to say, this art is my life!


I first met Chris Jones back in the summer of 2001 when I ended up meeting with him to discuss an issue with my account at the bank where he was working. I was immediately impressed by how nice and how professional he was. We discussed a lot more than my account that day, mainly Jeet Kune Do! Chris decided that he would start training with me, and has been my student ever since.


Chris has diligently trained with me for twenty-one years at the time of this writing. I will have to say that he is easily one of the best students that I have ever had the pleasure to work with, and he has developed a high skill level in the art of Jeet Kune Do! Chris is very dedicated to me and to this art, which is why he became one of the very few people in the entire world to be certified as a Full Instructor by me. He is close to his Senior Instructor rank, so his dedication to me and to this art has definitely paid off!


Chris is like a son to me, and not only is he an excellent student and Instructor, but also one of my dearest friends. He is a man of high standards and great moral character. A devout Christian, he is a man of strong faith and belief in God. Being a Christian myself, and sharing my beliefs with him, is another very important thing that brings us closer together. I would recommend training with him to anyone that is interested in learning this art. I will continue to work closely with him, and will also be teaching seminars and training camps at his location. I look forward to meeting everyone that comes to train with us, and trust me, you will never regret your decision to do so!
